To have a professional South Sudan Peoples’ Defence Forces that is well trained, well equipped and which will sustain conditions in the country that enable economic growth, stability, democracy and national unity.

Mission

The mission of the Ministry of Defence is to preserve, defend and protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of South Sudan, guarantee the non-violability of the people’s rights, contributing to regional stability and supporting international peace initiatives, and ensuring the rule of law and good governance.

MoDVA Mandate

The mandate of the Ministry of Defence is derived from the Constitution of Republic of South Sudan 2011 (as amended). In accordance with Articles of the constitution, the South Sudan Peoples Defence Forces (SPLA) is established and mandated to carry out missions for the benefit of the state and it’s citizens.
